For no apparent reason at all, one of Kari Lake's witnesses in the trial that began on Wednesday suddenly burst into tears while talking about being an election worker in Maricopa County. There was no provocation, and they weren't talking about anything personal, so the tears were unexpected and completely unnecessary. If anything, they show that the people Lake is relying on might not be completely stable, as Farron Cousins explains.

Carrie Lake's second trial to try to overturn the results of the 2022 midterm elections in the state of Arizona got underway on Wednesday of this week after a judge decided that he would let her claims go back to trial, even after telling her that she has presented no evidence at all that would back up her claims. So it was very weird that the judge even let this happen. But once it started, things somehow got even more weird. When Carrie Lakes owned star witness, Maricopa County, uh, employee, I guess you would call her, who was one of the individuals verifying the absentee ballot signatures, which is what Carrie Lake is trying to challenge. This woman was supposed to be her star witness, but instead of being able to really talk about what happened, the woman, for no apparent reason burst into tears while being questioned by Carrie Lake's legal team. Now, I'm gonna show you the clip in just a second, but I want you to think about that for a moment. She was not having to deal with the lawyers defending what took place. She wasn't being asked tough questions. She was talking to the friendly lawyers, the people who hired her or not hired, excuse me, the PE people who brought her to be their witness. So there was no reason she should have burst into tears. Nonetheless, that's exactly what happened. Take a look. Why did you want to get involved in Maricopa's election process? I'm doing this for my children. I have five children and, sorry, nine grandchildren, and I want their vote to count. How many elections did you work in for Maricopa County? I work for the primaries in general. I'm sorry. You okay, ma'am? Yes. You need a, if you need a break, No, I'm fine. I'll be okay. Do you have water? No, sir. Would you like, do you want water? We've got a bottle. Yes, please. We'll get that for you. Go ahead and continue. Ms. You can approach her. I, I, I, I don't, I don't even know what to make of that. I mean, we're not talking about her having to recant, you know, or recount, excuse me, some, some kind of a, a abuse that she suffered. She's not having to relive a traumatic experience on the stand. You're, you're just being asked questions of, you know, how, how'd you come to work for the county? Did, did you, did you like your job? My much? I got kids. Okay, wonderful. No, nobody's coming for your kids. Nobody's coming for your grandkids. Like, what the hell is even going on at this point? Now, eventually this star was able to pull herself together, um, rather quickly. I might add, uh, which, you know, kind of makes it seem like maybe those were crocodile tears there. But once she actually started testifying, she blew a giant hole in Carrie Lake's case. Again, this is the woman that Carrie Lake had as her star witness, and she blew everything up. See, the, the central claim that Carrie Lake is trying to make is that Maricopa County, just Maricopa County, which is run by Republicans of all people. Um, they didn't do a good job with the signature verification, and they allowed thousands and thousands of ballots that should have been thrown out to instead be counted. Now, she's provided no evidence as the judge made clear. So this signature verifier, which is what that woman was, was supposed to talk about. Yeah, we kind of just did whatever the hell we want. We didn't look at things, but oh, no, no, no, no. That is not what this witness said on the stand. After she stopped crying, she said that we went through several weeks of training. We spent hours and hours learning how to do this. We were told to be as efficient and thorough as possible, make no mistakes. We were told. So this woman, instead of saying that, oh, it was all haphazard, we just did whatever said, owned to the contrary, we were told to be very vigilant, and if anything was questionable, get rid of it immediately.
